Today’s featured friend is Lisa Mckenzie, a college sorority sister. Lisa came up with an idea one afternoon, while lying around the pool with some girlfriends, to create decorative bra straps. Bra straps that were meant to be seen, to be worn with those tops or dresses where your strap is always peeking out. People come up with ideas everyday, but Lisa acted on hers. She dove right in and found a manufacturer to bring her vision to life and Ooh La Bra was born. With a lot of hard work she landed accounts in 250 retail boutiques in her 1st year. Pretty impressive for a casual “afternoon idea”. She has also participated in the New Orleans Entrepreneur Week and won a $10K software application for her business. Her biggest challenge has been building the right team to support and grow her business. She has been fortunate to have family and friends help her from the ground up with everything from packing boxes to working trade shows. What I love about her story is that she didn’t have any formal training or experience in the fashion design world but she took a leap of faith and jumped right in. She definitely is proof that hard work, determination, and faith can make your dream come true!
